Opinions on all the deaths in new video games

Okay. So, if you are a gamer, then you know many main characters from many good video games have died recently. For example, Commander John Shepard-Mass Effect 3, Soap-MW3, Dom-Gears of War 3, and the list goes on. Tell me what you think about these deaths and maybe even some old deaths that you want to bring up like the death of Kratos in God of War 3.

  2. Heroes die. That's a fact. But if you want to get deep about it just look at History, Literature and Mythology. For example, much Folklore around the world contains heroes that die and then are resurrected as stronger versions of themselves. In the Christian religion the Messiah must die in order to come back as a more powerful being. Sacrifice is a very strong theme in our Culture. The capacity to believe in something so much that you are willing to give your life for it is precisely what makes someone a Hero. The best kind of Hero.

  3. I think the game delvs, and writers just don't wanna get stuck making the same game with the same toons over and over again. Easy fix kill the bastards.

    But I can understand why they have to die. When I write a story im happy with I always kill off the protagonist, and the antagonist. Like I said the more you build on something the futher you dig yourself. Plus it prevents people from adding on to your stuff 2-30 years later.

  4. My guess, with the new advancements in technology we can make bigger, better, and longer stories. Because of new visual abilities and the modern improtance of good stories in video games now make for better stories. And especially in RPG's, where stories are key to making the games awesome, you'll need to have characters die every once in a while.

    Now I'm not saying we didn't have character deaths before. I mean Zero sacrificed himslef for Mega Man at the end of the game. I'm just saying that stories are now more important and recognized than before. And sometimes when you have good cinematics, you can make more dramatic stories. And some stories don't have happy endings.
