In Batman Arkham Asylum,why were the thugs clapping for you at the end?

It's just part of the Joker's weird humor. Like firebird said, he is congratulating you on getting that far but it is also part of his whole party theme. Throughout the game he regularly mentions that the whole thing is a big party. So, since Batman and the Joker are the stars of the party all of guests (the thugs) are clapping, welcoming you to the final event of Joker's wild party. On a side not, did you know you get a trophy for knocking out all of the hechmen welcoming you? I didn't know that and didn't beat up all the henchmen. Don't know why I didn't since it would have been fun either way.

Well for one you just defeated a jacked up gigantic joker, which is also their master. And they are also afraid of getting their a$$es kicked again lol.

Spoiler Alert: Maybe its because Batman was BA enough to honor the Joker by carrying him out instead of leaving him there dead. It was a tribute to the battle of good vs evil and a time of morning for Batman as well as the Joker's thugs. They were showing there respect. Tomorrow, its back to fighting. Like the fall of any hero (in a way the Joker was a hero to his followers). What do you think?
